Who We Are
The two of us have sixty years combined experience working with groups, organizations, systems, and individuals. We have developed a facility for working successfully in many different environments, and in many different consulting roles within organizations. Our client base includes large and small, national and international, for-profit and non-profit organizations and businesses in the public and private sector. We have extensive training and experience in understanding the functioning of both organizations and the people within them. This has allowed us to understand issues specific to different types of organizations, as well as to recognize general issues faced by all organizations and their members. The result is a consulting practice that assists clients in developing unique solutions for today's seemingly complex organizational challenges.

Our Backgrounds
Sandra developed and for eleven years led the Organizational Development and Professional Training program for a 2,000-employee business unit of AT&T Bell Laboratories. Joel, a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive background in working with systems, is a Master Certified Coach who has led training workshops on a national level. Our clients have included Lucent Technologies, Cisco Systems, AT&T Bell Laboratories, General Electric, Paradyne, IBM, the World Bank, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, StorageTek, Los Alamos National Labs, DoubleClick, STV, NeXstar Pharmaceuticals, and a variety of other organizations including national and international universities, a mountain resort, a public policy mediation group, environmental organizations, public and private schools, governmental and community based agencies, and health care organizations. The blending of our talents, coupled with the depth and breadth of our experience base, enables us to enter an organization and quickly illuminate the areas of maximum leverage for positive results.

What We Do
Our consulting practice has provided a wide range of services to our clients encompassing most facets of enhancing organizational performance, including:

  • Customer Relations (internal and external)
  • Sales
  • High Performing Team Development
  • Executive Coaching
  • Employee Retention
  • Leadership Development
  • Establishing organizational cultures that facilitate sustained high performance
  • Conflict Management
  • Communications Systems and Skills
  • Reward Systems & Performance Management
  • Executive & Virtual Team Development and Coaching
  • Strategic Planning
  • Organizational Needs Assessment
  • Facilitating meetings
  • Mergers and other times of transition (e.g. changes in top management)
  • Creating new businesses and/or restructuring existing ones
How We Do What We Do
We have developed substantial expertise in asking the right questions of leaders and other organizational members, to first help them clarify what they want and then to identify what is in the way of them having that. We help them find the points of maximum impact by distinguishing between energy-sapping symptoms and root causes/problems. We assist them in recognizing how energy has become dispersed, and learning how to focus it towards the accomplishment of individual and organizational goals. We work respectfully and in partnership with our clients, collaboratively developing strategies to most effectively and directly facilitate desired outcomes. We share skills, tools, and perspectives that t have an immediate and powerful impact, including 100% Responsibility and the Enneagram. Finally, we are very aware that a common criticism of organizational consulting is that its positive effects are generally not long lasting. We view evaluation, action planning and follow up as integral to the services we provide, such as ensuring that needed structures are in place to maintain positive momentum.

"Joel was my executive coach for the period of one year.   More importantly, we worked together during a time of significant challenges within the business and within the executive team of StorageTek.  Throughout this time, Joel brought clarity of purpose and shed light on the issues and the underlying agendas which were driving the corporation.  Joel focused on the ecosystem of the company and how to become a stronger player throughout.  He also focused on the interpersonal relationships, building my ability to be successful.

"Because of Joel’s coaching of me, I am a very different executive.  I have recognized my strengths and leverage them for the benefit of the business and driving bottom line success.  I now have the ability to recognize the driving style and ecosystem of the corporation and more importantly, the executive team, and modify my style to best become a key team member.  More over, courageous leadership is a key differentiator of an effective executive.  My ability to influence change and lead courageously has been significantly improved because of Joel’s ability to coach and mentor."

Stacy Dumas

"I watched people in my company become strong group advocates with diminished personal needs but with enhanced group goals. People became better able to hold clear positions that were reasonable and less cluttered by the shadows that plague us all.”

Former Chairman of the Board & Chief Scientific Officer, NeXstar Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

"I have known Sandra Hill for over a decade and have worked closely with her on several occasions when I was employed at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies. My team used Sandra as a consultant for team building and for dealing with team relationship issues. I always found Sandra to be, foremost, a good listener. She had the unique ability to work with the team in a way that people on the team respected her advice and were willing to work through problems in ways that Sandra suggested. Sandra was also unique in that she was able to use examples in our workplace that were meaningful. Other consultants I have used would presume that they understood the technical parts of the job and then would trip over themselves as they tried to relate these experiences to the work environment. Sandra was very good at not making this mistake. I would use Sandra again to help build any team that I was a part of. She was effective and a pleasure to work with."

“Clear Impact Consulting Group was engaged by SOM to assist us in improving the working environment and business effectiveness of our Washington office. Clear Impact is a thoroughly engaged and completely committed consulting group who were successful by emphasizing human interaction as the core of business effectiveness and who by their skillful and supportive coaching have greatly assisted us  achieving our business goals in Washington.”

Carl Galioto, FAIA, Partner, Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP

"Joel and Sandra combine experience, wisdom and heart to help to move even the most difficult organizational situations forward. I know. They did it for me!”

Kathy Prosser, MBA
Former President and CEO
The Keystone Center

“I have known and worked with Sandra Hill as a consultant and facilitator many times over the last nine years. For the last four of those nine years, Sandra has been joined by Joel Rothaizer. They are a great team.

When they first came to work with Friends' School, before my arrival as Director, the school was in organizational chaos. With the help of Sandra, and later Joel, the roles of different constituencies in the organization were clearly defined and working procedures and policies put in place. People who had been unhappy and disenfranchised were empowered, and began taking responsibility for themselves and their role in the organization. The school is now a healthy, functioning place to work.

Currently Sandra and Joel work with the staff of Friends' School at two annual retreats. They help the community address organizational issues that need attention. They are sensitive to the needs of both the organization and the individuals who comprise the collective.

I am convinced we would not be where we are today without the help of Clear Impact Consulting Group, Inc.  I can not recommend them highly enough.”

Polly Talbot Donald
Director
Friends School

“Joel and Sandra helped Gold Lake to create team, to understand clearly where it was that we wanted that team to go, and to understand and to agree to how to get there as a team. The improvement in our employees’ attitudes and my ability to influence their behavior after our teambuilding work is simply stunning. Joel and Sandra helped enable me to lead our organization and develop relationships within our organization that I was never able to before. Their work has proven over time to be extremely valuable to the success of our organization."

Alice Starek
Proprietor, Gold Lake Mountain Resort & Spa

“Joel and Sandra illuminate the dark corners of corporate manager interpersonal dynamics. They bring uncommon intelligence and flexibility to training sessions with hard-bitten executives as well as with neophyte employees. Their natural teamwork inspires confidence and promotes group interaction. Through Joel and Sandra I discovered and dealt with barriers to my own effectiveness as a leader, and I learned valuable lessons in how to promote better group dynamics within my organization.”

Paul Schmidt, Ph.D.
Former Vice President, Drug Delivery Research
NeXstar Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

“What struck me the most was their depth of connection with the staff. It went beyond the traditional consultant role. They became part of the family, and that stuck with everybody through the ups and the downs, and led to an extremely positive outcome. They also modeled the behaviors they espoused, reflected behaviorally the values they taught, and that created a congruence that established a legitimacy.”

Terry Benjamin
Executive Director
Emergency Family Assistance Association, Inc.

"The Enneagram approach and training provided by Clear Impact was some of the most rewarding and reinvigorating of my life. It was remarkably insightful and of immediate - and lasting - value in both my professional and personal lives. At the simplest and highest level it deals with the

various factors that make different people 'tick'....but goes beyond that to give practical, non-esoteric and usable guidance on how best to

interact with others. Clear Impact was an engaging - and engaged - source of the new knowledge, genuinely looking for ways to make the material both

accessible and meaningful.

In terms of direct business impact it has given better appreciation of differing talents, combined with an common language and understanding - which means more efficient debate, less wasted time...simply, more productivity. Our team is more united as well as more efficient, and finds the tools are equally valuable when applied to working across the organization. Bottom line - it helps eliminate wasted time and effort."

Mark Peters

Director, Customer Advocacy

StorageTek

“Joel and Sandra have helped us create a much more productive and positive work environment by teaching us how to respect and accommodate different personalities. Their engaging workshops made it a pleasure for everybody to participate, and proved to be of lasting value.”

Wolfgang Pieken, Ph.D.
Former Chief Executive Officer
Proligo, LLC

"Working with Joel was great! I found him to be gracious, wise, and extremely validating. Both his persona and professional competence

contribute to his skill at getting to the heart of the matter very quickly. I acquired not only new tools and clearer direction, but, most

importantly, greater clarity around who I am."
